The Craft

Every Satraag piece begins long before the fabric is woven.

It begins with hands that have perfected their craft over generations, with wooden blocks that have carried stories for decades, and with traditions that continue to exist because artisans continue to keep them alive.

Our first chapter, The Fakira Collection, celebrates one of India's oldest textile traditions—hand block printing.

Each saree is printed entirely by hand using intricately carved wooden blocks, many of which are 40 to 80 years old. Every motif is pressed individually, one impression at a time, making each saree subtly unique. These natural variations are not imperfections—they are the signature of true craftsmanship.

The collection is crafted on organic cotton and coloured using AZO-free dyes and Natural dyes, reflecting our belief that beautiful textiles should also be made responsibly.

Inspired by the quiet rhythm of an earlier time, the Fakira Collection evokes a sense of simplicity, stillness, and nostalgia. Its patterns are designed to capture the warmth and peace of a slower way of living—one where beauty was found in everyday moments rather than constant change.

The collection also honours Saudagiri Art, a textile tradition that forms part of Ahmedabad's rich cultural heritage, the city the founder proudly calls home. Once celebrated and now rarely seen, this distinctive art form is slowly fading from memory. By working alongside the artisans who continue to practise it, Satraag hopes to play a small part in preserving this remarkable legacy for future generations.
